It’s been a travel-tastic few days as we left London for warmer weather. We’re here in Melbourne for a few weeks hanging out with family, topping up our vitamin D levels and hunting out healthy things.
I think Australia is ahead of us when it comes to all things health related. When I first came here almost 30 years ago (my first trip here was in 1988…!!) I discovered banana smoothies and thought they were the height of culinary chic as they hadn’t yet made it to British shores.
We’ve been here 48 hours and the jet lag’s not tooooo bad (if you don’t mind waking up at 4.30am….). As is often the case, we’ve been a bit food obsessed. We were out for brunch, then food shopping for a pre-Xmas family feast which gave me a good chance to lurk around the supermarket shelves looking for glorious new things.
A few of my faves so far are green rice infused with extract of bamboo and red olive oil with lycopene from tomatoes. The 2 combined would be a fairly festive combo…. There’s a whole trend going on here about adding extra nutritional oomph to daily foods. And look, I even got courgette with my omelette....!
In this crazy week before Xmas, between the mince pies and Quality Street, keep on eating green things. Not green rice… but one or two portions of green veggies everyday. Doesn’t matter which. Spinach, sprouts, kale, cabbage, peas, whatever floats your boat.
You’ll be getting your own nutritional boost and your body will thank you for it.
Until next time.
Be glorious. Stay well.
