Yep. I used to have spots all over my cheeks and chin. I was diagnosed with adult acne in my early 20s and then again in my 30s. Weirdly, I never really got spots in my teens but they appeared with a vengeance in my 3rd year at Uni (something to do with too much beer and cheap pasta dinners perhaps....?).
Plus I had eczema on my hands, arms and legs. Major bummer. My skin was not in a happy place.
I was prescribed antibiotics, the pill, was tested for polycystic ovary syndrome (negative) and was eventually referred to a dermatologist. She put me on a course of Roaccutane (a ridiculously potent but effective acne treatment) and, big sigh of relief, my spots cleared up.
For a while.
The whole thing started again in my 30s and I found myself back at the dermatologist’s office and on the anti-acne drug. It’s unlucky for acne to rear its head again after a course of Roaccutane. So to be embarking on round 2 made me feel er....really unlucky.
Then my luck started to change. My sister recommended a nutritional therapist to me and I thought ‘I’ve got nothing to lose, might as well go and see her’. Even though her clinic was a 2-hour drive away, something told me I needed to see her. And I did. Every 2 weeks for months.
She was a total blessing and not only helped me to manage the side effects of Roaccutane (the long list included aching joints, dry eyes, cracked lips, nose bleeds…) but most importantly, to figure out why my skin was in turmoil.
Turned out my body reacts very badly to cow’s milk and gluten. It still does.
That was the start of a huge learning curve for me about how what we eat can have a massive impact on our skin, our energy, our life.
And a long-winded way of explaining why I now do what I do.
I chose to study at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, leave my globe-trotting role at Coca-Cola (yes, it's been a dramatic career change) and set up Glorious Wellness.
I now focus on helping busy people to get glowing skin, amazing energy and to feel gloriously well.
It saddens me when I hear that someone’s struggling with skin issues, feeling lethargic or just downright uncomfortable in their own body, as it doesn’t have to be that way.
Here’s a quick video I made about 3 things you can do to get gorgeous glowing skin. I was nervous and talking soooooo slowly (forgive me!) but I wanted this week’s video to be about skin, as it’s the thing that prompted me to get off my butt and get Glorious Wellness going.
If you need help to sort out your skin, energy or weight, book a complimentary 30 minute call with me and let’s see how we can get you feeling gloriously well.
